Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” is surgery to change the shape of your nose and improve its function by modifying the bone or cartilage. Rhinoplasty is one of the most common types of plastic surgery. The upper part of the structure of the nose is bone. The lower part is cartilage. Rhinoplasty can change bone, cartilage, skin or all three.
People get rhinoplasty to repair their nose after an injury, to correct breathing problems or a birth defect, or because they’re unhappy with the appearance of their nose. Nose jobs can be done to change how you look or for medical reasons. For example, some people may need surgery to repair a problem with the cartilage that divides one nostril from the other. Others may just want to make their nose smaller or change its shape.
